History
“The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future.” | Theodore Roosevelt

At St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School, we teach History in a way that inspires curiosity and a desire to learn about the past. Our curriculum enables children to develop a secure understanding of British history and significant periods from the wider world, helping them to place events within a clear chronological framework.
Through enquiry based learning, children are encouraged to ask questions, examine historical evidence and consider how people’s lives have changed over time. Across Key Stage 2, pupils build on their earlier learning by developing deeper historical understanding and increasingly sophisticated enquiry skills. By exploring cause and consequence, similarity and difference, and continuity and change, children are supported to make meaningful connections between the past and the present.
Our history curriculum at St Cuthbert’s helps pupils to develop a sense of identity, respect for others and an understanding of the world around them, preparing them well for future learning.
