Dear Parents/carers,
Please find attached the letter from Her Majesty’s Inspector, Mr Michael Wardle from his recent visit to inspect the teaching of Languages at our school.
I am delighted that it was evident that we have a commitment to teaching languages at St. Cuthbert’s.
The introduction of Mandarin to school has brought about such positive experiences for our pupils and the inspection letter highlights the progress our pupils have made in the learning by the time they reach Year 3.
The comments on French confirmed our need to review the length of the curriculum and the order of teaching specific concepts to ensure we meet the aims and scope of the national curriculum in this subject by the end of year 6. In order to help us achieve this, I have enlisted the help of a Specialist Teacher of French who has already started to work with pupils and staff in Year 5 and 6. Together with our Curriculum and French subject Leads she will help us to focus on the order of sounds, grammar and sentence structures, there by helping the children to make further progress in French.
